Our Story

Built from a gap. Driven by a mission. Dedicated to generations not yet born.

The Origin Story

The African Intellect was born from a quiet but urgent observation.

Dole Omer — An Ethiopian-American entrepreneur, founder of 8 companies, and a woman who shattered every ceiling that immigration, gender, and industry placed in front of her — had spent years watching something troubling unfold around her.

Within her community, and across the broader African diaspora, there was no shortage of extraordinary people. Doctors who had rebuilt hospitals. Engineers who had designed infrastructure across continents. Entrepreneurs who had built multi-generational wealth from nothing. Scholars whose research was reshaping their fields.

But there was no platform that found these people, sat with them, and asked the questions that truly mattered. No place that dug into how they built what they built. No archive that preserved their wisdom for the young Ethiopian girl in Minneapolis, the Ghanaian-American boy in Houston, the Somali entrepreneur in London — all of whom desperately needed to see a mirror of their own potential reflected back at them.

So Dole built The African Intellect.

Not as a media company. Not as a content channel. But as an educational institution without walls — a platform where Africa’s known and silent giants could sit down, speak freely, and leave behind a permanent record of their excellence for every generation that follows.

I migrated to the United States for my higher education. Through thick and thin, I managed to uplift myself, kept educating myself, and became an entrepreneur who built 8 companies —including breaking through as a woman in the male-dominated construction industry through Kezira Homes. My community always asked me how I did it. African Intellect is my answer —not just for them, but for every African and African descendant who needs to know it is possible."

Dole Omer is an Ethiopian-American entrepreneur, educator, and visionary whose life story itself is a masterclass in resilience, reinvention, and excellence.

I didn't just grow up hearing about entrepreneurship — I grew up inside it. Every office, every deal, every construction site was a classroom. African Intellect is where I take everything I've been taught and use it to help tell the stories of the people who built something extraordinary.

Samatar Preciado is the co-host of African Intellect and the embodiment of the very message the platform carries: that excellence is transferable across generations when it is intentionally taught. Raised by a mother who refused to separate her professional world from her role as a parent, Samatar developed an unusually deep fluency in business, construction, real estate, and entrepreneurship from childhood.

What We Are for

Knowledge. Excellence. Legacy. Truth. The unapologetic celebration of African intellectual and entrepreneurial achievement in all its forms.

Our Vision

We envision a world where every young person of African heritage — regardless of where they were born, what language they speak, or how little they currently have — can access a library of proof that people who look like them, came from where they came from, and faced what they face, built something magnificent anyway. We envision classrooms on every continent using African Intellect episodes as curriculum. We envision young entrepreneurs citing our guests the way business students today cite Harvard case studies. We envision grandparents sharing episodes with grandchildren and saying
This is where we come from. This is what is possible.
That is why we are here. That is why we are building this archive. That is why we will never stop.
